Field Club Historic District to be Honored; Area Leader to Speak

May 3rd, 2007 · No Comments

The Douglas County Historical Society will honor Omaha’s Field Club Historic District and showcase the area’s pioneer families, businesses and organizations during its annual “Early Settlers’ Reunion.” The event will be held on Sunday, July 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. at historic Fort Omaha, 30th and Fort streets, now the campus of Metropolitan Community College. The event is open to the public. There will be free entertainment and exhibits on the grounds of the Historical Society’s museum and official Douglas County archive, the General Crook House Museum and the Library/Archives Center.

At 2 p.m., neighborhood leader, Ed Quinn, will speak about “The Field Club Historic District, the ‘How To’ for Listing on the National Register of Historic Places.” Quinn led the designation process, donated his documentation to the Douglas County Historical Society to make available for research and is a member of Omaha Landmarks Historic Preservation Commission.

The usual admission/donation will apply to tour the General Crook House, an authentically restored frontier general’s home. Tour admission will also cover attendance at Quinn’s talk.

Neighborhoods, families and organizations that wish to have an exhibit at the event or arrange for groups to attend, should call Betty Davis, Douglas County Historical Society executive director, at 455-9990.
